LEGAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1999-present.   President and General Counsel of speak softly legal management.

  • 1982-1998.  Litigation Associate and Partner (1989-1998) at Hill Wynne Troop & Meisinger.  Specialized in complex trial work in State and Federal courts.  Nurtured and managed firm's family law department and its automotive industry and defamation/right of publicity specialties.

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

  • 1985-present.  Partner/CEO of Bechtel Physical Therapy.  Manage business operations.  Grew annual revenues from under $50,000 to over $3 million per year in 16 years.

  • 2004-2010. Managing Partner and General Counsel of On The Fence Films, LLC.  Co-founded and managed this independent documentary film production company specializing in short and full-length feature documentaries addressing "big picture" political topics including health care reform and political indoctrination in American colleges and universities.

  • 1996-1998.  Owner/Operator of 2,600 seat concert venue (formerly called the Celebrity Theater) in Anaheim, CA.  Co-promoted artists (including Bare Naked Ladies, Johnny Cash, Jose Jose, and Ziggy Marley) with House of Blues.

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Won jury trial and all appeals in Vanna White vs. Samsung Electronics, a seminal right of publicity case in the 9th Circuit.

  • Won judgments and settlements in excess of $150 million for plaintiffs and successfully defended clients against "actual damage" claims exceeding $300 million.

  • Tried, as "first chair" counsel, over 75 cases (involving jury and bench trials and AAA and NASD arbitrations), winning more than 90%.

  • Handled major litigation matters for corporate clients including BMW of North America, Inc.; Sony Entertainment; Columbia Pictures; Tristar Pictures; Hughes Aircraft; Lockheed Martin; Westinghouse Electric; Sears Savings Bank; Columbia S&L; FMC, Inc.; Aames Financial; Castle Rock Entertainment; New World Pictures; and Stephen J. Cannell Productions.

  • Blaine has been a published legal author, law school lecturer, author of political opinion columns for the L.A. Times and USA Today, syndicated radio commentator, and legal cartoonist for the Daily Journal.
